Rata (Queenstown)

Prior to having kids, I was a bit of a foodie; it wasn’t something I did consistently enough to blog about at the time, but we’d been to The Fat Duck, Le Gavorche, 100 Maneiras, and couple of Michelin star restaurants on the Cote D’Azur, and having had great food in New Zealand on past work trips (also pre-kids), I was keen to see what was on offer on this trip - now with kids (and their food allergies!). I also find that higher end restaurants cater quite well for gluten and dairy free.

Rata were amazing; I e-mailed them prior to our trip to ask whether they would be able to accommodate all our allergens at the time, and they were prompt in their communication.

On the day we ate at the restaurant, they also brought out their menu which had been marked up to indicate which items we definitely would not be able to order (given our allergies), and what modifications they would need to make to other items on the menu.

We ordered the duck, lamb, pork and some sides. Servings were share size. The food tasted amazing - both the kids and adults enjoyed this one!
