SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS

Ahh, nothing like a farm stay to relax and unwind! This was a really enjoyable holiday for our little family - incredibly peaceful and a great experience for the kids to be able to feed (or in the case of my then 2 year old, who was too scared to go near the animals, watch) the farm animals.

GETTING THERE

We stayed in Fitzroy Falls which is just over 2 hours' drive from Sydney, and we drove our own car. The obvious appeal with this holiday was the ease factor - I even brought some pre-cooked frozen bolognese from home and bought some groceries and packed them in the car (which is obviously easier than packing them into a suitcase to bring to the airport, etc!).

WHERE TO STAY

We stayed at a place called The Lodge in Fitzroy Falls, which I highly recommend.

The hosts are lovely and take the children out to feed the animals (obviously let them know about the foods your child/children are allergic to and ask if it is in any of the animal feed). It was perfect for a little family of 4, and my then 5 year old loved it!

PLACES TO VISIT

I'm sure there are more places to visit in the region but as we were only there for a few days, we only went to the following (and spent the rest of the time on the actual farm!):

- Fitzroy Falls Vistor Centre and Lookout

1301 Nowra Rd, Fitzroy Falls NSW 2577

- Berrima Market Place Park / Jellore St Playground

Jellore St, Berrima

- Berrima District Historical & Family History Society Museum

Cnr Market Place &, Bryan St, Berrima NSW 2577

GROCERY SHOPPING

We brought some grocery items up with us, and also did a shop up at Coles in nearby Moss Vale.

WHERE TO EAT

The Southern Highlands has some lovely places to eat (most of them a drive away from wherever you would be staying); for restaurants we went to while we were there, check out my Southern Highlands restaurant reviews.
